HONG KONG – Hong Kong recorded its coldest day so far this winter as temperatures dropped to 11 deg C in the city on the morning of Jan 12, according to the Hong Kong Observatory.
The mercury dropped to 7 deg C or even lower in parts of the New Territories, while the city was expected to have sunny and very dry weather for the rest of the day.

“It will be fine and dry over the region. It will be cold in the morning, very cold over inland areas, where the temperature difference between day and night will be rather large,” it added.
Article continues after this advertisementThe Centre for Health Protection of Hong Kong’s Department of Health reminded members of the public, particularly the elderly and people with chronic illnesses, to take appropriate measures to protect their health amid the cold weather.
Article continues after this advertisement“Elderly people have less insulating fat beneath their skin to keep them warm, and their body temperature control mechanisms may be weaker. Their body may not be able to appropriately respond to the cold weather,” a spokesperson said.

With the cold weather warning in force, the Labour Department reminded employers to take appropriate precautions such as reminding employees who have to work outdoors or in remote areas to wear appropriately warm clothing.
