phl63 ‘Hello, Love, Again’ a record-breaking hit among Fil-Canadians

The highly anticipated sequel to the 2019 box-office hit “Hello, Love, Goodbye” has redefined the boundaries of Filipino cinema. 

“Hello, Love, Again,” starring the country’s box-office queen Kathryn Bernardo and Kapuso superstar Alden Richards, has amassed a record-breaking P1.4 billion worldwide, making it the highest-grossing Filipino film of all time.

The world’s second-largest economy has yet to achieve a highly anticipated post-pandemic recovery and the government has set a goal of five percent growth in 2024 – an objective analysts say is optimistic given the headwinds it is facing.

Mass protests against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s controversial judicial reforms had already weakened Israel’s economy before the Hamas attack on October 7.

The film’s success has not gone unnoticed in North America. The Philippine Cultural Association of Yellowknife, recognizing the overwhelming demand for the movie, reached out to the Capitol Theatre to secure a screening. 

But tickets for the film showing sold out in record time – in just two days. This led to the announcement of a second screening, scheduled for Dec. 16, which was expected to be just as popular, if not more.

“Due to high demand, the first showing of Hello, Love, Again on Dec. 9, 2024, is now SOLD OUT! But don’t worry—if you missed out on tickets, we have great news! A SECOND showing has been added on December 16, 2024, at 7:30 PM! Tickets are now available for purchase at Capitol Theatre,” they announced on their Facebook page.

One of the factors contributing to the film’s success is that it was shot in Canada and follows the story of overseas Filipino workers in the country, highlighting their struggles, hard work and longing for home.

ABS-CBN Films reported that the movie has grossed over P1 billion in the Philippines, while also generating more than $7 million internationally. In North America alone, the film debuted with a solid $2.32 million during its opening weekend, securing the eighth spot on the region’s top-grossing films.

Both Bernardo and Richards expressed gratitude for the people all around the world who watched the film.

Currently, “Hello, Love, Again” is showing in over 700 cinemas worldwide, and it’s now on its fifth blockbuster week.
